The Instrument of choice for small animal endoscopy is definately the "Pediatric" or Slim Gastroscope. The smaller diameter scopes are essential to the small animal endoscopist especially for use in cats and small dogs (under 20 lbs.) These flexible scopes range from approximately 8mm – 10mm in diameter (the ideal diameter is 8mm – 9mm). They are approximately 1 meter (100cm) long and have four (4) way angulation. They also have biopsy channels which are approximately 2.0mm – 2.8mm in diameter. All scopes have air insufflation, suction and irrigation capability, (A must for all G.I. Procedures).
These scopes provide maximum versatility. They are slim enough to pass through the pyloric canal of a cat or small dog and still long enough to perform the same procedure for your larger breeds up to Rotweilers and German Shepherds. This procedure is essential as biopsies of the duodenum are frequently necessary.
The instrument of choice for Equine endoscopy will vary depending on procedure. All human gastroscopes will work for upper airway. Keep in mind that in order to get over one meter in length the diameter of the scope increases with the length.
